Whenever an appointive officer of the town is absent from town, disabled or otherwise unavailable to perform the duties of his or her office under circumstances not creating a vacancy in the office, the appointing authority may designate another appropriate appointive officer to exercise the powers and perform the duties of an unavailable officer during the interim, and the appointing authority shall report the designation to the Board of Commissioners at its next regular meeting for action as the Board may consider appropriate. Any officer so designated shall have the title of the office temporarily held by him or her, with the word acting preceding the title, as, for example, acting Tax Collector. Acting officers shall give bond in cases for which bond is required of the permanent officers in whose places they act.
