§ 118.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   BOARD. The Town Council of the Town of Wilkesboro.
   CHIEF. The Chief of Police of the Town of Wilkesboro and his or her designee(s). The CHIEF is responsible for the administration of this chapter.
   DAILY MANIFEST. A written accounting of each trip, including the following information:
      (1)   Place of origin of trip;
      (2)   Place of destination of trip;
      (3)   Odometer mileage reading at start of trip;
      (4)   Odometer reading at the end of trip;
      (5)   Time at start of trip;
      (6)   Time at end of trip;
      (7)   Number of passengers carried; and
      (8)   Fare charged.
   DRIVER. Any person who actually drives a taxicab on the streets of the town for hire. "Drive" or "driving a taxicab" means driving a taxicab for hire on such streets.
   DRIVER'S PERMIT. The permit issued by the Chief under which a person may drive a taxicab for hire.
   PROOF OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. A certificate of any insurance carrier duly authorized to do business in the State of North Carolina certifying that there in effect a policy of liability insurance insuring the owner and the driver of the taxicab, his or her agents and employees, while in the performance of their duties, against loss from any liability imposed by law for damages including damages for care and loss of services because of bodily injury to or death of any person and injury to or destruction of property caused by accident and arising out of the ownership, use or operation, including driving, of such taxicabs in and amount equal to the greater of:
      (1)   One hundred thousand dollars because of bodily injury to or death of 1 person in any 1 accident and, subject to said limit for 1 person, $300,000 because of the bodily injury to or death of 2 or more persons in any 1 accident, and $50,000 because of injury to or destruction of property of others in any 1 accident; or
      (2)   The limits required by state law (G.S. §20-280(b)), as amended from time to time.
   TAXI OR TAXICAB. A passenger motor vehicle plying for hire for which public patronage is accepted or solicited and which is designed as to seat comfortably not more than 9 persons but shall not include motor vehicles or motor vehicle carriers as defined in G.S. Ch. 20, Art. 17.
   TAXICAB SERVICE. Any person, business, company, corporation, or other legal entity who owns 1 or more taxicabs or who engages in the operation of 1 or more taxicabs under a trade or service name.
