11.48.090: DISPOSITION OF VEHICLES ABANDONED TO PUBLIC DOMAIN:
   A.   Upon removing a vehicle pursuant to section 11.48.070 of this chapter, the County shall submit a written request for appraisal to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles after no more than ten (10) days, to which the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has ten (10) days to respond 1 .
   B.   The Sheriff shall, within forty eight (48) hours after the appraisal, notify the head of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles of the removal and disposition of the vehicle 2 .
      1.   If the vehicle is appraised at two hundred dollars ($200.00) or less, the White Pine County Sheriff shall execute an affidavit attesting to the vehicle as junk pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes 487.260(2) and describing the vehicle, including the license plates, if any, the appraised value of the vehicle, and a statement as to how the Sheriff intends to dispose of the vehicle.
         a.   The White Pine County Sheriff, after complying with the above, may claim title to the junk vehicle with an affidavit which attests to its value as junk.
         b.   The Sheriff may then summarily dispose of the vehicle.
      2.   If the vehicle is appraised at more than two hundred dollars ($200.00) but for five hundred dollars ($500.00) or less, the White Pine County Sheriff shall execute an affidavit so attesting and describing the vehicle, including the license plates, if any, the appraised value of the vehicle, and a statement as to how the Sheriff intends to dispose of the vehicle.
         a.   Failure to reclaim a vehicle appraised at five hundred dollars ($500.00) or less within fifteen (15) days after notification constitutes a waiver of interest in the vehicle by any person having an interest in the vehicle 3 .
            (1)   If no interested parties present themselves to the White Pine County Sheriff with the intent of reclaiming the vehicle, the Sheriff may claim title to the vehicle pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes 487.250(4) with an affidavit which attests to the failure in subsection B2a of this section.
            (2)   After receiving the salvage title from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, the Sheriff may summarily dispose of the vehicle.
      3.   If the vehicle is appraised at more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), the White Pine County Sheriff shall execute an affidavit so attesting and describing the vehicle, including the license plates, if any, the appraised value of the vehicle, and a statement as to how the Sheriff intends to dispose of the vehicle.
         a.   Failure to reclaim a vehicle appraised at more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) within forty five (45) days after notification constitutes a waiver of interest in the vehicle by any person having an interest in the vehicle.
            (1)   If no interested parties present themselves to the White Pine County Sheriff with the intent of reclaiming the vehicle, the Sheriff may claim title to the vehicle pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes 487.810(1)(d) with an affidavit which attests to the failure in subsection B3a of this section.
            (2)   After receiving the salvage title from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, the Sheriff may summarily dispose of the vehicle.
               (A)   If the White Pine County Sheriff chooses to conduct a sale of any vehicle in their possession worth more than five hundred dollars ($500.00), the Sheriff shall give notice of public sale not less than ten (10) days before the date of the proposed sale. (Ord. 473, 2017)
