There shall be a City Attorney appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council who shall serve as chief legal advisor to the Council and the Mayor. The City Attorney shall be a member of the Monongalia County Bar. The Council may provide for the employment of, in addition to the City Attorney, any assistant City Attorneys as special counsel to represent the City in connection with any legal matter or matters. City Council shall fix the compensation of such attorneys.
