A. Building Numbering Required: All buildings situated or hereafter erected or located on any lots fronting on any street or avenue within the Village, except garages and other accessory buildings, shall be numbered in the manner described herein and as may hereafter be provided by ordinance.
B. Method Of Numbering:
1. All buildings fronting on north and south streets or streets running in a northerly or southerly direction shall be numbered consecutively from a line running parallel with and located approximately six hundred feet (600') north of the north section line of Section Six, Township Thirty-Eight North, Range Twelve, East of the Third P.M. as a base line, beginning with the number 3800 at said line and increasing toward the south.
2. All lots or buildings located on east and west streets or streets running in an easterly or westerly direction shall be numbered consecutively from the west line of Gilbert Avenue (and its continuation as Willow Springs Road) as a base line, beginning with the number 1 and increasing toward the west.
3. The house numbers from their starting point shall commence with the number 1 and run consecutively, the odd numbers being on the east and south and the even numbers on the west and north sides of the respective streets or avenues, as shown by the Map described in Section 8-1-4 of this Chapter.
C. Assignment Of Numbers: The Department of Code Enforcement shall assign or cause to be assigned the proper house numbers to each lot or building and shall at any time upon request inform the owner, agent or person in possession of such premises what such number is.
D. Location And Size: Each of the figures of every house or building number shall be not less than three inches (3") in height and so marked as to be easily read. The numbers shall be placed in a conspicuous place on the side or above the front door of the building to which the same are attached.
E. Adjustments To Numbers: The Department of Code Enforcement shall have authority to adjust and reassign house numbers in order to avoid conflict or correct mistakes.
F. Alteration Of Numbers Prohibited: Whenever any house or building shall have been numbered or renumbered as provided in this Chapter, such number shall not be altered without the consent of the Department of Code Enforcement.
G. Compliance With Numbering System: Any person being the owner, agent or person in possession of any building now or hereafter erected in the Village who shall, for thirty (30) days after demand by the Department of Code Enforcement, neglect or refuse to number any such building owned or occupied by him as provided by this Chapter, shall be fined as provided for by Section 1-4-1 of this Code.
