§ 36.02 APPOINTMENT; TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
   (A)   All personnel of the Police Department shall be appointed by the Mayor. The Police Department shall consist of one person designated as the Chief of Police, and such other officers as the City Council may authorize, who meet the requirements of the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the rules as may be set by the City Council. The terms and conditions, including the rules and regulations under which the personnel of the Police Department are to be employed shall be promulgated by the Mayor with the assistance of the Chief of Police and referred with their recommendation to the City Council for adoption.
   (B)   Appointment as a police officer shall be for an initial probationary term of one year. No appointment or promotion shall be deemed as final, until the appointee has satisfactorily served the one-year probationary period. The authority of the Mayor shall not be restricted to prevent the release or discharge of an appointee while in a probationary period of employment.
