(a) Required; Placement. A number shall be fixed for all street entrances to dwellings and places of business within the City and the owners of all dwellings and places of business shall be required to place the number so designated, in a neat design, in some conspicuous place about such entrance.
(b) System for North and South Numbering. Beginning at the south of each square both sides of each street running north and south in the City shall be divided into sections of twelve feet in width, and each one of these sections shall be entitled to a number and any street entrance appearing within that section shall be designated by that number. The first section in each square on the east side of streets running north and south shall be designated by the number of the street immediately south thereof with two ciphers added thereto. The numbers shall then alternate regularly back and forth across the street, one number for each section, even numbers on the east side of the street and odd numbers on the west side, until the next cross street is reached.
(c) System for East and West Numbering. Beginning at the west of each square both sides of each street running east and west in the City shall be divided into sections of fourteen feet in width, and each one of these sections shall be entitled to a number and any street entrance appearing within that section shall be designated by that number. The first section in each square on the north side of streets running east and west shall be numbered as follows: East of Marianna Street No. 17; east of Main Street No. 49; east of Charles Street No. 81; east of Yankee Street No. 113; east of Commerce Street No. 145 and east of High Street No. 177; the numbers shall then alternate regularly back and forth across the street, one number for each section, the even numbers on the south side of the street and the odd numbers on the north side.
