(a) The exterior paint scheme of vehicles operated by the City of Wellsburg Police Department shall be two-toned in color, with those colors being black and white. Additionally, all vehicles shall have distinctive police insignias or markings either painted or marked with a permanent decal or design on both sides along with the phrase “Wellsburg Police,” “Wellsburg Police Department,” “Wellsburg P.D.” or some similar type phrase appearing on both sides and along the rear of the vehicle. The permanent decal or design shall be in color or colors which are in contrast with the colors of the vehicle’s exterior.
(b) If, upon a majority vote of the elected members of the City Council it is decided that the Police Department may designate one of its vehicles as an unmarked vehicle, the Department may do so provided that the unmarked vehicle is internally equipped with operable front and rear warning lights, siren, public address (PA) system, communication radios, radar equipment, and emergency supply equipment as would normally be found in a marked police vehicle operated by the City.
(c) The requirements of this section shall only be applicable to vehicles purchased for use by the Police Department after November 13, 2018.
