139.03 SPECIAL POLICE.
   (a)   There is hereby created the office of special policeman in the Municipality which shall permit the appointment thereto of up to six persons to serve in such capacity.
 
   (b)   Appointment of special police officers shall be made by the Mayor with the advice and approval of a majority of members of Council.
 
   (c)   Each appointment as special police officer shall require that there be a probationary period of six months continuous service, and none shall be finally made until the appointee has satisfactorily served the probationary period.
 
   (d)   No person shall receive a permanent appointment hereunder unless that person has, not more than sixty days prior to receiving such appointment, passed a physical examination, given by a licensed physician, showing that he meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of such position.

   (e)   Each such appointee shall be recommended for appointment and approved by the Police Chief and the Police and Safety Committee of Council.

   (f)   Upon approval by Council of a probationary appointment as special police officer the person so appointed shall be sworn into office, and shall before any final determination or a permanent appointment, complete all requirements to satisfactorily complete a course of training as required by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council in effect at the time of such appointment.

   (g)   Special police appointed under this section shall be reimbursed at the rate of fifteen dollars ($15.00) per day for each day such officer is required to appear in court and may be reimbursed for such other expenses incurred with approval of Council.
