(a) Conductors. The metallic conductors or roof leaders or downspout wastes, and the surface and ground water drains, wherever possible, shall be connected with a sewer, but they may not connected to house sewers which discharge into sanitary sewers for the carriage of sewage only.
(b) Conductors and Pipes. Conductor pipe shall not be used as soil, waste or vent pipes, nor shall any soil, waste or vent pipes be used as conductors.
(c) Main Pipe. All main and branch soil, waste, vent and backvent pipe shall be of iron, lead, brass, copper or plastic. The main waste pipe stack carrying a kitchen sink or more than three other fixtures shall not be less than two inches in diameter.
(d) Roof Extensions. All soil and waste pipes receiving the discharge of any fixtures shall be extended the full caliber at least two feet above the roof and at least five feet when such roof is used for other purposes than weather covering the building. In no case shall a vent pipe through the roof be less than four inches. Changes in diameter shall be made by long increaser, at least one foot below the roof. The joint at the roof shall be made watertight by the use of proper sheet copper or lead plate, with a sleeve not less than six inches long made to fit the pipe tightly. The plate shall be not less than one foot six inches square. The roof terminals of all vent pipes shall be at least three feet above any door, window scuttle or air shaft when located at distances less than twelve feet from such terminal. No soil, waste or vent pipe extension of any new or existing building shall be run or placed on the outside of a wall, but shall be carried up in the inside to the roof.
(e) New Buildings. In the event that a new building is built higher than an existing building, the owner of the new building shall not locate any windows within twelve feet of any existing vent stack on the lower building, unless the owner of such new building defrays the expenses of, or makes such alteration to conform with this chapter. It shall be the duty of the owner of the lower or existing building to make such alteration therein upon the receipt in advance of money or security therefor, sufficient for the purpose, from the owner of the new or higher building, or to permit at the election of the owner of the new or higher building, the making of such alteration by the owner of such new or higher building. No vent pipe shall be used as a waste or soil pipe.
(f) Drainage Excavations. All excavations required to be made for installation of a house drainage system or any part thereof, within the walls of a building, shall be open trench work. All such trenches shall be kept open until the piping has been inspected. Parties in charge of the work shall notify the Plumbing Inspector twenty-four hours before work is ready for inspection. Failure of the Plumbing Inspector to inspect within such time shall allow the party in charge to proceed with the work.
(g) Separate Trenches. Each system of piping shall be laid in a separate trench. Trenches may be benched eighteen inches for lighter pipes. Where pipes pass under walls, the same shall, if possible, be placed under openings, and in all cases where pipes pass under or through walls, they shall be provided with a relieving arch or lintel.
