§ 505.06 ABANDONING ANIMALS WITHIN THE CITY.
   (A)   No person shall abandon within the city limits any dog or cat or destroy and leave the carcass of any animal lying exposed; provided, however, that where any animal is destroyed accidentally, the person causing the destruction shall immediately notify the Police Department of the time and location of the accident and shall be absolved from this section.
   (B)   No animal(s) shall reside, be abandoned to, or otherwise be housed in a dwelling that their owner(s) do no physically occupy; however, in cases wherein owners can verify the owner’s relocation to another residence, a three-day (72-hour) grace period from law enforcement’s first observation of animals in unoccupied residences or structures will be allowed. Continued occupation thereafter will constitute a violation of this section.
