(a) Appointment. The Department of Community and Economic Development shall be administered by a Director who shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the confirmation of Council. The position of Director of Community and Economic Development shall be a full-time position as defined in Section 167.01, and the Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.
(b) Powers and Duties. The Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development shall supervise the development, implementation and management of all programs and policies designed to maintain, create and promote increased community and economic development in the City. Subject to the direction and approval of the Mayor, the Director shall:
(1) Develop and implement programs designed to encourage existing businesses in the City to remain in the City.
(2) Develop and implement programs designed to encourage additional business and commercial development in the City.
(3) Establish a budget for the Department.
(4) Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of all applications for federal, state and county grant funds which may be available to the City.
(5) Develop and implement programs designed to obtain grants and/or loans which may be available for the betterment of the residents of the City.
(6) Seek all available funding for the improvement of the residential, retail, commercial and industrial areas of the City.
(7) Perform such other duties as the Mayor may assign and prescribe for this office.
(8) Review all aspects of community oriented issues directed to him/her and report and make recommendations directly to the Mayor.
(9) Provide advice and opinions relative to City activities.
(10) Coordinate interdepartmental activities of the City.
(11) Promote the City and its achievements.
(12) Promote good will for the community.
(13) Do any and all things necessary and proper to carry out the above.
(c) Salary. The Director of Community and Economic Development shall receive compensation as provided by ordinance. (Ord. 2015-158. Passed 12-15-15.)
