A policy is hereby enacted governing the appointment of provisional officers within the Police Department.
(a) The following shall be considered guidelines to be utilized in the selection process for Police Officers. In no way shall this section be considered as establishing maximum requirements, but shall be considered as establishing minimal requirements within the selection process.
(b) The selection process for Police Officer shall be administered by the Civil Service Commission and in no way shall this section be considered in conflict with the State civil service law. The selection process shall include, but not be limited to, the following criteria:
(1) Satisfactory completion of a thoroughly designed application form;
(2) Satisfactory completion of a thorough and detailed background investigation;
(3) Satisfactory completion of a thorough agility fitness examination which accurately depicts the appropriate duties of a police officer;
(4) Satisfactory completion of a thorough physical examination by a medical doctor;
(5) Satisfactory completion of a polygraph examination to verify all background information;
(6) Satisfactory completion of a thorough psychological profile which may be oral or written:
A. If oral, the examination must be given by a licensed psychologist with a background in police officer evaluation.
B. If written, the examination may be administered locally by the Civil Service Commission but must be evaluated by a competent psychologist with a background in the evaluation of police officers.
