The city council shall, within the time specified in section 2.04.020 of this chapter, in addition to any duly authorized deputy, designate appointive officers, including the administrative assistant, the city clerk-treasurer, the city attorney, and each municipal judge of the city, the chief of police, fire chief, and service superintendent such number of emergency interim successors to these officers and specify their rank in order of succession after any duly authorized deputy so that there will not be less than three (3) duly authorized deputies or emergency interim successors or combination thereof for each officer.
