6.08.030: LICENSE FOR DOGS AND CATS; PAYMENT REQUIRED; CONFINEMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR CHICKENS AND ROOSTERS:
A.   It is unlawful and an offense for any person within the city to keep, own, possess, harbor, or allow to remain in or upon the premises under his or her control any dog or member of the canine family or any cat or member of the feline family over four (4) months of age without having paid a license fee as set forth in this chapter.
B.   All required vaccination and city tags will be attached to all dogs and cats at all times.
C.   Chickens and roosters may be possessed for noncommercial purposes (such as gathering of eggs for personal use/consumption), provided that they are confined on the property at all times, a minimum of four (4) square feet of covered pen space must be available per individual chicken/rooster, the covered pen space, and building or enclosure (e.g. a coop) connected thereto, shall be located in the backyard not located closer than fifteen feet (15') from the property line, all roosting areas must be kept clean with no animal waste allowed to affect neighboring properties, and the following conditions are satisfied:
   1.   Lots less than one-third of an acre (14,520 square feet): a maximum of six (6) chickens are allowed with roosters being prohibited;
   2.   Lots over one-third of an acre (14,520 square feet): a maximum of eighteen (18) chickens and two (2) roosters are allowed provided that nothing contained herein shall excuse an owner of any such animals from the ordinances related to disturbing the peace and/or noise violations where such noise is generated by animals on the property.
D.   Any person violating this section shall, upon conviction in the municipal court, be subject to a fine not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) plus court costs. (Ord. 1223 §1, 2022: Ord. 1216 §1, 2022: Ord. 999 §2, 2004: Ord. 692 §1, 1989)
