(a) The Engineer shall supervise the improvement and repair of streets, avenues, alleys, lands, lanes, squares, bridges, viaducts, sidewalks, sewers, drains, ditches, culverts, streams and watercourses; supervise the lighting, sprinkling and cleaning of all public places; and perform such other duties, consistent with the aforementioned responsibilities, as Council requires. In addition, he or she shall attend Council meetings or Planning Commission meetings when requested by the Mayor or Council.
(b) The Engineer, in the performance of his or her responsibilities set forth in subsection (a) hereof, shall have the authority, with the approval of the Mayor, to hire Class B part-time assistants as set forth in Section 260.03, and for that purpose such Section 260.03 shall be construed to provide that either the Street Commissioner or the Engineer, with the approval of the Mayor, shall have the authority to hire such Class B part-time employees.
