No person shall erect or maintain over or above the sidewalk space of any street or avenue of the city any awning or shade of any kind for any purpose, unless every part thereof shall be at least seven feet above the surface of the sidewalk or sidewalk space. Any person violating the provisions of section shall be deemed guilty of an offense, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to penalty as provided in § 10.99 of this code of ordinances.
