The police chief shall be appointed or terminated by the Mayor and confirmed by an absolute majority of the City Council. The Police Officers are hired and terminated at the will of the Police Chief with confirmation by the Mayor. The city may continue to maintain and support a competent and adequate police department and may provide by ordinance for regulations as may be found necessary for the maintenance and government of such department, including provisions for compensating personnel of such department.
The Police Chief shall be accountable for all law enforcement functions contributing to the protection of lives and property in the city and responsible for the supervision of department personnel.
