The salary of the mayor and council members shall be fixed by the city council not to exceed fifty (50) dollars per month. A mayor or council member may choose not to be paid a salary for their term. If a council votes to increase the pay to council members and/or mayor, the increase cannot take effect until after the next election of each respective seat of the council and the mayor. Therefore, elected officials will receive increases at different times.
