Before entering upon the duties of his or her office and within five days after appointment, each member of the Police Department shall take and subscribe an oath or affirmation to faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of his or her appointment as a member of the Police Department and in accordance with the statutes of the state relating to the oath to be taken.
