(A) Whenever a stop sign is placed at any of the following intersections, every driver of a vehicle crossing the intersection shall stop the vehicle before entering.

(B) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic-control signal, every driver of a vehicle approaching the intersections when stop signs are in place shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection. After having stopped, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another roadway which is approaching so closely on the roadway as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when the driver is moving across or within the intersection, but the driver having so yielded may proceed at the time as a safe interval occurs.
(C) Any vehicle driver violating the requirements of this schedule may be prosecuted under applicable Illinois law regulating motor vehicles, Illinois Vehicle Code, ILCS Chapter 625, Act 5, §§ 1-100 et seq., including ILCS Chapter 625, Act 5, § 11-904, or the violations may instead be prosecuted by the city as violations of this schedule.
(D) Any person operating a motor vehicle contrary to the requirements of this schedule shall be punished by a fine not less than $75 and not more than $200, and the City Attorney may, upon the direction of the City Council, prosecute the offenses in the name of the city.
