For purposes of this subchapter, the operation of mopeds (vehicles as described in G.S. § 20-4.01(27dl) shall not be construed as a vehicle prohibited from coming upon the lands so long as the vehicle shall be operated upon the paved driveway and access areas for the school, but the vehicle may not be operated or otherwise driven upon the sidewalks, grounds, athletic fields or other common areas owned by the Board of Education at its schools, and not otherwise off of the portions of the premises used as roads, driveways or parking lots.
