(a) The City Jail shall be under the control of the Police Chief, who shall cause the Jail to be kept clean and provided with supplies of bedding and other necessities for the comfort and safekeeping of persons confined therein.

(b) The Police Chief or some member of the Police Division authorized by him shall receive all persons brought to the City Jail under arrest or legal process, by the police or other duly authorized officer and shall safely keep such persons until they are duly released or discharged. During the time the persons are so confined he shall cause them to be supplied with necessary, clean, wholesome and properly cooked food.

(c) All bills for repairs and supplies for the City Jail and all bills for food for prisoners shall, after being duly certified to by the keeper of the City Jail, be presented to the Director of Finance for allowance and payment, in the customary manner.

(d) Any person escaping, attempting to escape or aiding and abetting the escape or attempted escape from the City Jail shall pay the City the cost of repair of damage done to City property as a result of the escape or jailbreak or attempted escape or jailbreak. (1984 Code Sec. 36.25)
