§ A261-33. Year of service.
   A.   "One full year of service" means 365 completed days of employment. A "partial year of service" means any portion of a year of employment that does not constitute a full year based upon the ratio that the number of such days bears to 365.
   B.   Subject to Subsection C below, a member's years of service shall be calculated from his date of employment or reemployment with the township as a police officer to his date of separation from employment or retirement from the township, whichever is earlier.
   C.   The following periods of time shall not interrupt a member's employment status for purposes of calculating the member's years of service, provided that such periods are less than one year, though such periods need not be continuous:
      (1)   Vacation days.
      (2)   Accrued time days.
      (3)   Leaves of absence.
      (4)   Periods of suspension from duty.
   D.   Family Medical Leave Act. Effective August 5, 1993, a member shall be credited with completed days of employment for purposes of satisfying the years of service vesting requirement described in § A261-44 for any period during which he is absent from work on unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. However, no member shall be credited any days of completed service for leave on account of the Family and Medical Leave Act for purposes of satisfying the years of service eligibility requirement described in § A261-31.
