In all new construction of any building or structure wherein any portion thereof shall be occupied or used by persons for sleeping quarters, the owners or developers of such buildings or structures, including one, two or three-family and multi-family dwellings, shall install automatic smoke and/or heat detection alarm devices adjacent to, but outside of, such sleeping quarters. Such devices shall be installed in such a manner that the alarm signaling device shall be clearly audible in all bedrooms when all intervening doors are closed. Fire detection devices shall also be installed where specified by the Building and Zoning Inspector and/or the Fire Chief, who shall use the 2002 Edition of the National Electrical Code and the 2000 Edition of the National Fire Protection Association, "Standard for the Installation, Maintenance and Use of a Household Fire Warning System." Detectors Sensitive to heat only are not acceptable.
