§ 36.106 VACATION USE.
   (A)   (1)   Paid vacations are provided to full-time employees in accordance with length of continuous service. Annual vacation is earned according to the following accrual schedule:
         (a)   One week after completing 12 months of continuous service;
         (b)   Two weeks after completing 24 months of continuous service;
         (c)   Three weeks after completing five years of continuous service; and
         (d)   Four weeks after completing 12 years of continuous service.
      (2)   A week’s vacation shall mean 40 hours’ work time in a seven consecutive day period.
   (B)   The vacation time becomes available for use on the anniversary date of employment for the employee and must be used before the next anniversary date. No vacation time is accrued for use in subsequent years and vacation time will not be compensated by additional pay at the end of the employee’s anniversary date unless the village requires cancellation of a scheduled week or day vacation due to manpower requirements of the department. SCHEDULED in this context means vacation time previously approved by the Chief as described in division (C) below.
   (C)   (1)   Sign up for annual vacations will begin on December 1. The Police Chief will post a calendar for vacation selection on or before December 1 blocking out those dates which the Chief has selected for his or her vacation. Employees may then sign up for vacation dates (full work weeks only) during the following calendar years. If there is a disagreement, the employee with more seniority will be given first preference for the selection of vacation dates during the sign-up period. No two full-time officers may select vacation weeks at the same time. After December 31, vacation will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Officers may request individual days off when another officer is using vacation time, subject to manpower requirements.
      (2)   Adjustments, cancellations, and rescheduling of vacation periods including single days may occur during the calendar year, provided a minimum of 21 days’ written notice for multiple day changes and 14 days’ written notice for single days is given to the Chief and that the changes do not create conflicts with previously scheduled employee vacation periods. Any such adjustment or scheduling shall be granted based on a first-come basis.
