787.12. Only sealed scales, etc., to be used.
   (a)   No person, firm or corporation shall use or permit to be used by any person in his, their or its employ any weights, measures, scales, beams, steelyards, balances or other instruments or machinery for weighing articles or commodities, unless the same shall have been tested and sealed or marked as herein required, and no person, firm or corporation, with intent to use the same for weighing or measuring as aforesaid, shall alter or permit to be altered, or knowingly use or permit to be used after same shall have been altered, any such weights, measures, scales, beams, steelyards, balances and other instruments or machinery for weighing or measuring, after the same shall have been so tested and marked or sealed as aforesaid.
   (b)   Weighing and measuring devices that have been rejected under the authority of this chapter shall remain subject to the control of the rejecting authority until such time as suitable repair or disposition thereof has been made as required by Section 787.11. Use of any rejected weighing and measuring device before testing and sealing by the rejecting authority is prohibited unless authorized by the rejecting authority.
