AN ORDINANCE ENACTING A CODE OF ORDINANCES FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF SUMMIT, COUNTY OF JACKSON, STATE OF MICHIGAN REVISING, AMENDING, RESTATING, CODIFYING AND COMPILING CERTAIN EXISTING GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP DEALING WITH SUBJECTS EMBRACED IN SUCH CODE OF ORDINANCES.
   WHEREAS, the present general and permanent ordinances of the Township of Summit are inadequately arranged and classified and, in their present format, such ordinances do not adequately preserve the public peace, health, safety and general welfare of the township and do not adequately provide for the proper conduct of its affairs; and
   WHEREAS, the Acts of the Legislature of the State of Michigan empower and authorize the Township of Summit to revise, amend, restate, codify and compile any existing ordinances and all new ordinances not heretofore adopted or published and to incorporate such ordinances into a code of ordinances in book form; and
   WHEREAS, the Summit Township Board of Trustees has authorized a general compilation, revision and codification of the ordinances of the Township of a general and permanent nature and publication of such ordinances in book form.
   NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE SUMMIT TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES, THAT:
   Section 1. The general ordinances of the Township of Summit as revised, amended, restated, codified, and compiled in book form are hereby adopted as and shall constitute the Code of Ordinances for the Township of Summit County of Jackson, State of Michigan.
   Section 2. Such Code of Ordinances as adopted in Section 1 shall consist of the Titles as shown on the Table of Contents attached hereto, and all of the ordinances appearing in such Code of Ordinances are hereby incorporated herein and made a part hereof, in their entirety, as though fully set forth herein.
   Section 3. All prior ordinances pertaining to the subjects treated in such Code of Ordinances shall be deemed repealed from and after the effective date of this ordinance except as they are included and adopted, in whole or in part, in such Code; provided, such repeal shall not affect any offense committed or penalty incurred or any right established prior to the effective date of this ordinance, nor shall such repeal affect the provisions of ordinances levying taxes, appropriating money, annexing or detaching territory, establishing franchises, or granting special rights to certain persons, authorizing public improvements, authorizing the issuance of bonds or borrowing of money, authorizing the purchase or sale of real or personal property, granting or accepting easements, plats site condominiums, or dedication of land to public use, vacating, setting or adjusting the boundaries of streets or other public places, nor shall such repeal affect any other ordinance of a temporary or special nature or pertaining to subjects not contained in or covered by the Code.
   Section 4. This ordinance shall take effective thirty (30) days from the date of its publication. A full and complete copy of such Code of Ordinances shall henceforth be kept on file in the office of the Township Clerk and shall be kept as a part of the permanent records of such office.
   Section 5. The foregoing ordinance, or a synopsis thereof, shall, promptly after its adoption be published in a newspaper of general circulation within the boundaries of the Township of Summit and qualified under state law to publish legal notices.

   At a regular meeting of the Summit Township Board held in the Township Hall on the day of, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., the foregoing ordinance was offered by Member Gordon Heins and supported by Member Douglas Hoyt.
