A. Creation: There is hereby established a department of the government of the village which shall be known as the police department of the village of Sugar Grove. Said department shall consist of a chief of police and as many other officers as may from time to time be provided by the corporate authorities. (Ord. 2008-07-15B, 7-15-2008)
B. Duties: The police department shall be responsible for the prevention of crime; the detection of crime; the apprehension of criminals; the preservation of peace, order and safety; the enforcement of laws and ordinances within the village and such other duties as the board of trustees may establish by ordinance. The chief of police shall serve under the direct supervision of the village administrator and shall have such duties as described in section 5-1-3 of this chapter and as prescribed by the village administrator.
