5-1-1: DEFINITIONS:
As used in this chapter, the following words and terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section:
MEMBER: Any person in the employ of the police department of the village who is not sworn and commissioned to perform police duties.
POLICE OFFICER: Any employee of the police department of the village sworn and commissioned to perform police duties, and includes the chief of detectives, captains, lieutenants, sergeants, plain clothes officers and patrol officers. The term does not include special police officers, auxiliary police officers, night watchmen, temporary employees, clerks or other civilian employees of the police department, traffic guards, civilian parking meter and parking facilities personnel or so called auxiliary police officers specially appointed to aid or direct traffic at or near schools or public functions, or to aid in civilian defense or special police officers temporarily employed or commissioned as police officers.
