6-2-4: NONDOMESTIC ANIMALS:
   (A)   Definitions: For purposes of this section, "prohibited nondomestic animals" shall include: African rock python (Python sebae), reticulate python (Python reticulatus), Indian python (Python molurus), Burma python (Python molurus bivittatus), anaconda boa constrictor (Eunectes murinus), all other pythons and boa constrictor snakes (henphidias), all crocodilians (including alligators, crocodiles, and caimans), kimono lizards and snapping turtles.
   (B)   Prohibition: No person may keep or release any prohibited nondomestic animals within the village.
   (C)   Liability For Expenses; Prohibited Animal: Any person who wilfully, negligently or in violation of the provisions of this section is keeping, maintaining or releasing a prohibited nondomestic animal shall be liable for any expenses incurred by the village in searching for, containing, impounding, returning or disposing of the animal.
   (D)   Impoundment; Prohibited Animals: Any prohibited nondomestic animal found loose in the village, or kept in the village shall be surrendered to the village or other authority or person authorized by the president and shall thereupon be impounded. Such impounded animal or animals shall be released to the owner or keeper upon written certification that such animal shall not be returned to or kept within the village. If after ten (10) days from the date such animal was first impounded, such animal has not been claimed, it shall be humanely dispatched or disposed of by sale to or placement with a zoo, education or research institution or euthanized. In addition to the preceding requirements of this subsection, the owner or keeper shall pay to the village the daily cost of impoundment, which shall be the daily cost to the village of contracting for impoundment.
   (E)   Penalty: Any person who violates this section shall upon conviction thereof be fined in accordance with section 1-4-1 of this code.
   (F)   Exemption: Licensed veterinary clinics and hospitals temporarily treating and housing a prohibited nondomestic animal and bona fide circuses appearing in the village for a period of less than two (2) weeks shall be exempt from the provisions of this section. (2005 Code)
