Authorized emergency vehicles shall have the right of way at all times over other vehicles, on a signal by a siren, whistle, klaxton or the ringing of a bell; on hearing such signal, the driver of any vehicle shall drive it to the right hand curb as closely as possible and not enter an alley, and in no instance cross, or attempt to cross, any street intersection until the authorized emergency vehicle shall have passed.
