(a) No person or business shall erect or cause to be erected, any temporary or permanent structure, as listed below in items 1345.02(a)(1) to (8), for the following purposes: carport, shelters during construction work, circus, carnival, side show, outdoor social or athletic event, religious services, drop off collection or commercial enterprises, except under a permit from the Director of Planning/Development, as follows:
(1) A structure composed wholly or partly of canvas, or similar material.
(2) A metal drop off collection bin.
(3) An open sided metal framed structures with metal roofs, which are not governed by, Accessory Structures Section 1331.17(c).
(4) A temporary shelter for storages, (such as P.O.D.’s).
(5) Air-supported structure. A structure wherein the shape of the structure is attained by air pressure and occupants of the structure are within the elevated pressure area.
(6) Canopy. A structure, enclosure or shelter constructed of fabric or pliable materials supported by any manner, except by air or the contents it protects, and is open without sidewalls or drops on 75 percent or more of the perimeter.
(7) Membrane structure. An air-inflated, air-supported, cable or frame-covered structure as defined by the building code as listed in rule 1301:7-7-45 of the Administrative Code and not otherwise defined as a tent or canopy. See Chapter 31 of the building code as listed in rule 1301:7-7-45 of the Administrative Code.
(8) Tent. A structure, enclosure or shelter constructed of fabric or pliable material supported by any manner except by air or the contents that it protects.
(b) Tents and membrane structures having an area in excess of 200 square feet (19 m2) and canopies in excess of 400 square feet (37 m2) shall not be erected, operated or maintained for any purpose without first obtaining a permit and approval from the fire code official.
Exceptions:
(1) Tents used exclusively for recreational camping purposes
(2) Fabric canopies open on all sides which comply with all of the following:
A. Individual canopies having a maximum size of 700 square feet (65 m2).
B. The aggregate area of multiple canopies placed side by side without a firebreak clearance of 12 feet (3658 mm), not exceeding 700 square feet (65 m2) total.
C. A minimum clearance of 12 feet (3658 mm) to all structures and other tents.
