No person shall, without a currently valid City license, engage in or prosecute, within the City, any of the businesses, activities, trades or employments named in this article; and the license taxes hereinafter specified are hereby levied annually, unless otherwise provided, on every person engaging in or prosecuting, within this City, any such businesses, activities, trades or employments.
