The powers herein granted in this article may be exercised, except as to public and private school buildings, including colleges and universities, public and private hospitals and nursing homes, and buildings owned or operated by or for the State or any division or agency thereof or public corporation performing any function of the State, but the powers granted the State Fire Marshal shall continue to be exercised exclusively by the State Fire Marshal within the City with respect to public and private school buildings, including colleges and universities, public and private hospitals and nursing homes, and buildings owned or operated by or for the State or any division or agency thereof or public corporation performing any function of the State other than the Municipality; provided, however, that the inspections of the foregoing excepted buildings may be made by the Chief of the Fire Department but any fire hazard found within any excepted building by the Fire Chief shall also be reported by him to the State Fire Marshal.
