(A) All presently installed backflow prevention assemblies which were previously acceptable by the state, that complies with the installation, testing and maintenance requirements of this chapter, and in the sole discretion of the general manager or his or her designated representative, adequately protect the public water system from backflow, and that were approved assemblies for the purpose described herein at the time of installation may be retained in service.
(B) Location or space requirements shall not be cause for relocation or replacement unless such location or space limitations constitute a safety hazard, in the opinion of the general manager or his or her designated representative.
(C) Any backflow prevention device that is presently installed in a vertical run of pipe shall be replaced, or reinstalled, in an approved manner in a horizontal run of pipe.
(D) Wherever an existing assembly is moved from the present location, or when the inspector finds that the condition of the assembly constitutes a health hazard, the unit shall be replaced by a backflow prevention assembly meeting the requirements of this chapter.
