§ 10.04 GENERAL DEFINITIONS; RULES OF INTERPRETATION.
   (A)   Words and phrases shall be read in context and construed according to the rules of grammar and common usage. Words and phrases that have acquired a technical or particular meaning, whether by legislative definition or otherwise, shall be construed accordingly.
   (B)   For the purpose of this code, the following words and phrases shall have the following meanings ascribed to them respectively.
      (1)   AND. May be read or, and or may be read and if the sense requires it.
      (2)   ANOTHER. When used to designate the owner of property which is the subject of an offense, includes not only natural persons but also every other owner of property.
      (3)   CHILD. Includes child by adoption.
      (4)   CITY, VILLAGE, MUNICIPAL CORPORATION or MUNICIPALITY. When used in this code shall denote the City of Springdale, irrespective of its population or legal classification.
      (5)   IMPRISONED. Imprisoned in a county or municipal jail or workhouse if the offense is a misdemeanor, and imprisoned in a state penal or reformatory institution if the offense is a felony, or if imprisonment in a state penal or reformatory institution is ordered pursuant to R.C. § 2929.41 (E) (3)
      (6)   OATH. Includes affirmation and SWEAR includes affirm.
      (7)   PERSON. Includes an individual, receiver, trustee, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, and association.
      (8)   PROPERTY. Means real and personal property.
      (9)   R.C. Refers to Revised Code of Ohio.
      (10)   REGISTERED MAIL. Includes certified mail and CERTIFIED MAIL includes registered mail.
      (11)   RULE. Includes regulation.
      (12)   STATE. When applied to a part of the United States, includes any state, district, commonwealth, territory, insular possession thereof, and any area subject to the legislative authority of the United States of America. This state or the state means the State of Ohio.
      (13)   UNITED STATES. Includes all the states.
      (14)   WEEK. Seven consecutive days.
      (15)   WHOEVER. Includes all persons, natural and artificial; partners; principals, agents, and employees; and all officials, public or private.
      (16)   WRITTEN or IN WRITING. Includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures.
      (17)   YEAR. Twelve consecutive months.
   (C)   Tense, gender, and number shall be construed according to the following rules.
      (1)   The singular includes the plural, and the plural includes the singular.
      (2)   Words of one gender include the other genders.
      (3)   Words in the present tense include the future.
