(A) It shall be unlawful for a person under the age of 17 years to voluntarily absent himself or herself from his or her parent, guardian or other legal custodian without the permission of that parent, guardian or other legal custodian.
(B) A law enforcement officer who takes a minor into custody for violation of this section shall immediately make a reasonable attempt to notify the parent or other person legally responsible for the minor's care or the person with whom the minor resides that the minor has been taken into custody and where the minor is being held. Further, the law enforcement officer shall without unnecessary delay take the runaway minor to the court or to the place designated by rule or order of court or state law for the reception of juvenile offenders. As an optional disposition, the law enforcement officer may release the runaway minor upon the minor's agreement to perform public service work for a period not to exceed 90 days. Such an optional disposition shall be available to the juvenile officer only upon the written consent of the minor and his or her parent, guardian or other legal custodian.
