533.13 DISPOSAL OF SHARP OBJECTS.
   (a)   “Sharp objects” as used in this section means all used and unused hypodermic needles and all other needles, syringes, razors, broken glass, and other sharp objects that have, or are likely to have, come into contact with blood or infectious agents through any means, including, but not limited to, medical treatment or research or the administration of a drug, whether by prescription or not.
   (b)   All sharp objects to be collected by or disposed in the City shall be prepared for disposal in the following manner:
      (1)   Each sharp object shall be rendered completely unusable for its original purpose;
      (2)   Sharp objects shall be placed in a rigid, puncture-resistant container;
      (3)   Such container shall be securely sealed in such a manner as to ensure that the seal will not be broken when handled; and
      (4)   Such container shall be clearly marked as being hazardous.
   (c)   Any person found in violation of this section shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined up to three hundred dollars ($300.00) or imprisoned up to ten days in jail, or both. (Ord. 2258. Passed 5-3-18.)
