§ 10-1-25 STORING MOTOR VEHICLES.
   A.   For the purpose of this section, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
      LOST, STOLEN, ABANDONED, OR OTHERWISE UNCLAIMED VEHICLES. Any vehicle, trailer, or semi-trailer of a type subject to registration with the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division under the provisions of A.R.S. Title 28, which has been abandoned on a public highway, public property, private property, or elsewhere within the city. Evidence that a vehicle was left unattended for a period of 36 hours within the right-of-way of a highway, road, street, or other public thoroughfare shall be prima facie evidence of abandonment.
      MOTOR VEHICLE. Any self-propelled vehicle.
   B.   It is unlawful for any person to keep, store, or allow to remain in such a manner as to be exposed to view from without the property any motor vehicle, or any part or parts thereof, not licensed and operative, or not operative as a motor vehicle upon any property in the city, other than upon property zoned for industrial purposes, unless there is a business on the property, properly licensed with the city as a wrecking or storage yard.
   C.   It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to investigate, determine, and ascertain if there exists any person in violation of this section. If any person is found in violation of this section, the Chief of Police shall notify the person by written notice to correct the violation within 15 days. In the event the condition shall not be corrected within 15 days, the person shall be cited for violation of this section of the code. Each day the violation is committed or permitted to continue after the 15-day notice has been given shall constitute a separate offense and shall be punishable as such hereunder.
   D.   Police officers or other law enforcement officers of the city are hereby authorized to seize lost, stolen, abandoned, or otherwise unclaimed motor vehicles at any location within the city, including private property. Motor vehicles seized pursuant to this section shall be disposed of and reports made to the Superintendent of the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division, in accordance with A.R.S. §§ 28-1402 and 28-2091 et seq.
