The city engineer is hereby authorized and empowered to establish and to designate and shall thereafter maintain, by appropriate devices, marks or lines upon the surface of the roadway, crosswalks approximately equal in width to the adjacent sidewalk at all intersections where in his or her opinion, there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing the roadway.
