(a) During the workers’ compensation period of a retirant or beneficiary, his or her monthly retirement allowance payable by the retirement system shall be reduced by the amount of his or her workers’ compensation converted to a monthly basis.
(b) If a person becomes entitled to a retirement allowance payable by the retirement system as the result of an accident or injury caused by the act of a third party, the city shall be subrogated to the rights of the person against the third party to the extent of the benefits which the city pays or becomes liable to pay.
