It shall be the duty of the city judge to keep the docket required by the laws of Montana to be kept by the justice of the peace; to hear and determine all cases that may be instituted in the city court under the laws of the city; to pay all fines collected for the violation thereof to the treasurer monthly or more often if required. At the first stated meeting in each month, the city judge shall present to the council a report in writing, giving a statement of cases tried for offenses against the laws of the city, and fines and costs collected during the preceding calendar month, which report shall be accompanied by a receipt from the treasurer for the amount of such fines and costs.
