§ 51.42 INSTALLATION OF APPURTENANCES.
   (A)   Clean the interiors of all fittings, valves and hydrants of foreign matter prior to installation. Inspect valves and hydrants in open and closed positions to insure all parts are in working condition.
   (B)   Provide adequate blocking or thrust restraint for all fittings such as bends, tees and plugs. Provide one full length of pipe on each side of all fittings. Concrete shall be placed between fitting and solid trench wall where shown on the drawings. Concrete blocking shall be minimum 2,000 psi and shall not cover bolted glands. Where solid trench wall conditions are not present, fittings shall be tied to the next full joint in each direction by use of tie rods or fittings with integral cast flanges or set screw devices.
   (C)   Valves shall be set vertically and bedded solidly on trench bottom. Valve boxes shall be set plumb and centered over operating nut. Tamp backfill on all sides of each valve box to the undisturbed trench face. Leave valve box flush with finish grade and readjust as necessary until final settling or paving is complete.
   (D)   Hydrants shall be set plumb with the pumper nozzle facing the street. The centerline of hydrant outlet nozzles shall be not less than 18 inches nor more than 20 inches above finish grade. Provide hydrant extensions where required to obtain proper elevation. Hydrants shall be rigidly blocked and braced against thrust. Provide at least eight inches of washed coarse gravel two feet in diameter at hydrant shoe to insure proper drainage of hydrant barrel. Compact backfill around each hydrant to finish grade. Furnish and install a gate valve and valve box on each hydrant branch connection.
   (E)   Tracer wire shall be installed on polyethylene service lines and PVC pipe taped to pipe in 15 to 20 foot intervals. Do not wrap wire around pipe. Install tracer wire boxes at intervals not to exceed 5,000 feet. Coil tracer wire inside meter box with enough wire to extend two feet above the box. Install tracer wire on outside of all valve boxes between collar and box. Seal splices and branch connections with epoxy and wrap with tape. Install one pound anodes every mile or less. Provide a continuity test on all tracer wire installed.
