(a) Effective January 1, 1998, the Director of Finance and Public Record shall pay to an elected, salaried or appointed official or hourly employee of the city the standard mileage rate as determined annually by the Internal Revenue Service for the use of his or her private vehicle in the performance of authorized city business.
(b) For the purpose of this section, authorized city business shall be such business and schooling which benefit the city and are approved by the department head and authorized by the Mayor, as Director of Public Service.
(c) The Director of Finance and Public Record shall pay the employee for the mileage from the operating fund of the department in which the employee works, upon submitting a completed request form which has been approved by the department head and authorized by the Director of Public Service.
