143.05 AUXILIARY POLICE.
   (a)   There is hereby established an auxiliary police unit to be composed of the number of officers as deemed necessary by the Chief of Police and approved by the Safety/Service Director. The officers of this unit shall be appointed by the Safety/Service Director and shall be compensated in the amount of one dollar ($1.00) per year plus the hourly rate as determined annually for certain community events as determined by the Chief of Police and as budgeted by Council. Officers of the Unit shall have the same duties, responsibilities and authority as members of the regular police force.
   (b)   The Safety/Service Director shall be the executive head of the Auxiliary Police Unit, shall make all appointments and removals of auxiliary police officers, subject to any general regulation prescribed by Council by Ordinance and shall cause to be established rules and regulations for the organization, training, administration, control and conduct of the Auxiliary Police Unit.
   (c)   Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit are not eligible for membership in the Police Relief and Pension Fund under Ohio R.C. 741.31 through 741.54. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall not be in the classified service of the Municipality.
   (d)   Members shall be appointed in accordance with the following standard of priority as set forth herein:
      (1)   Current or past resident of the City of Sharonville, Ohio.
      (2)   Those regularly employed within Sharonville, Ohio.
      (3)   Those holding certification by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council or the equivalent thereof.
      (4)   Those possessing special skills or attributes that would serve the Police Department.
