242.04 PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES.
   All candidates, applicants and present employees of the Department of Public Works shall meet and pass the following requirements as a condition of employment:
   (a)   Each applicant or candidate for employment in such Department shall submit himself to a physical examination by the City Physician or his designee and shall pass the same prior to being hired.
   (b)   Each employee of the Department of Public Works shall take and pass a complete physical examination given by the City Physician or his appointee, at least once a year at a time and place designated by the Mayor, as a condition for continued employment in the City.
   (c)   In the event that such employee is deemed by the City Physician to be totally and permanently disabled so that he cannot carry out his normal duties, then he shall be involuntarily retired.
   (d)   In the event that any employee refuses to take a physical examination when directed to do so by the Mayor or his department head, he shall be suspended without pay for a period of ten days. At the end of such ten-day suspension period, if he continues to refuse to take such examination, he may be discharged for cause.
