121.01 DIRECTOR OF SAFETY; HEAD OF POLICE, FIRE AND BUILDING AND HOUSING DEPARTMENTS.

      There is created the office of Director of Safety. Such Director shall be the executive head of the Police Department, Fire Department and Building and Housing Department. The Director may preside at all meetings of any of these departments, shall have charge of and be responsible for proper maintenance of the apparatus of such departments, and shall publish rules for the operation of the departments and the duties and conduct of the members thereof. The Director shall have power to suspend any member of such departments for violation of rules, disobedience to orders of a superior officer or disorderly conduct while on duty. The Mayor is authorized to hold the office of Director of Safety in addition to the Mayor's other duties.
