(a) Duties. The Director of Law shall be part-time, and act as legal counsel to the Mayor, Council, administrative officers, departments, and the commissions and boards of the City. As the legal counsel and attorney, the Director shall represent the City in all proceedings in court or before any administrative body and in such other matters and controversies as is required by resolution or ordinance. The Law Director or an assistant shall act as prosecuting attorney for the City and shall perform all other duties now or hereafter imposed upon the Director of Law by the general laws of Ohio unless otherwise provided by ordinance of the Council and shall perform such other duties as may be required by this Charter and/or as Council or the Mayor may impose upon the Director consistent with this office. The Director of Law or assistant shall attend all meetings of Council. The Director of Law shall be empowered to designate such assistants as shall be authorized by the Mayor and approved by Council. In the absence of the Director of Law for any reason, an assistant shall perform all the duties herein imposed.
(b) Compensation. The base salary of the Director of Law shall be within the range of forty thousand dollars to fifty-five thousand dollars ($40,000 - $55,000) per annum, to be determined by the Mayor, with the approval of a majority of Council, depending on the qualifications and experience of the individual. Such base salary shall be payable in equal monthly installments. Any work performed by the Director beyond that set forth above, or beyond that set forth in the Charter or the general laws of Ohio, as well as any litigation in which the Director is one of the attorneys of record on behalf of the City or any of its employees, and for hearings before any boards or commissions, and for services rendered in connection with the development of subdivisions, shall be paid an additional one hundred dollars ($100.00) per hour. Such hours shall be detailed monthly, and promptly paid by the Finance Department within the following month of such services.
(c) Effective Date. Such compensation shall be effective immediately and extend through December 31, 2023, unless amended by Council prior thereto.
