(a) Scope of Responsibilities. The Service Department Foreman position is responsible for supervising activities and tasks of Service Department crews whose functions encompass the repair, maintenance and limited construction of the City's streets, sidewalks, sewers, signs, buildings, cemeteries, parks, and other services as required. The Service Department Foreman shall direct employees in providing services as may be required and directs employees in providing services as may be required (i.e., trash pick-up, leaf collection, grass cutting, etc.)
(b) Specific Duties. The specific duties of the Service Department Foreman shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
(1) Evaluate and determines with other department/s management necessary manpower and equipment for scheduled tasks;
(2) Evaluates and estimates costs of projects, determines needed supplies within the parameters of the allotted department funds;
(3) Provides detail report when requested of total costs of projects;
(4) Directs landscaping, sewer maintenance, asphalting, and lawn maintenance projects;
(5) Schedules workload and assigns tasks to individual employees and determines need for overtime;
(6) Reviews with the Director of Public Service and Properties and other department personnel progress of projects;
(7) Reviews with the Director of Public Service and Properties the need for support persons input, (i.e. City Engineer, Building Commissioner, Inspectors and Safety Forces.);
(8) Provides periodic detailed reports on the status/condition of equipment. Works with mechanics to provide maintenance reports on vehicles and equipment;
(9) Directs and assigns tasks of special event preparations (i.e. Home Days, memorial Day, etc,);
(10) Evaluates employee performance and initiates corrective measures in conjunction with Director of Public Service and Properties and performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Service and Properties.
(11) Verifies accuracy of employee time as reported and reports any discrepancies immediately to the Director of Public Service and Properties.
(c) Qualifications.
(1) The Service Department Foreman must have a working knowledge of all equipment used in the Service Department;
(2) The Service Department Foreman should have basic computer skills and basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft applications;
(3) Experience in working with and directing people.
